Honey is antimicrobial and helps kill acne-causing bacteria, and cinnamon has anti-inflammatory properties. (Note: You can also sub the cinnamon for three plump strawberries, as they’re high in salicylic acid.)

2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Wash your face with your favorite cleanser, and gently pat dry. Mix the honey and cinnamon together into a paste, and apply to affected areas. Leave on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse completely with warm water. Shays also recommends steaming your face while you have the mask on to help the ingredients really get into your .

Additionally, Shays recommends mixing one part vinegar with three parts fresh, cool water and using it as a toner a few times a week. The vinegar balances the pH of your skin so bacteria can’t thrive, she explains.

Coconut oil has antibacterial and antifungal properties, so it’s an ideal choice to help fight acne. Add to that the soothing and pH-balancing power of oatmeal, and you’ve got an amazing recipe for clearer skin.


  • Coconut oil
  • Oatmeal
  • Warm water


  1. Scoop 3 tablespoons of oatmeal into a mixing bowl.
  2. Add ¼ cup of warm water.
  3. Mix until you’ve made a paste.
  4. Add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and mix well.
  5. Wash your face and neck with warm water and an oil-free cleanser to cleanse your face and open pores.
  6. Apply the mixture and let it sit for 15 minutes.
  7. When the 15 minutes are up, gently massage your entire face using small circular motions for another 2 minutes. This brief massage will help remove dead skin cells, that if left, can clog pores.
  8. Finally, rinse the mask off with cool or lukewarm water.
  9. Pat your skin dry with a soft, clean towel.

Green Tea, Honey, Lemon, Sugar

  • 1 tablespoon of green tea (tea bag or Matcha green tea)
  • 1 tablespoons of raw honey
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
  • 3 teaspoons of sugar (preferably brown)

Mix all the ingredients and apply the paste over your face — excluding the eyes, mouth, and eyebrows. Rub the paste over the face for 1-2 minutes in a slow and circular movement. Leave on for 10-15 minutes.

While rinsing off with warm water, use a washcloth for added exfoliating effects.

Turmeric Face Mask For Acne


  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon honey

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and apply it to cleansed face. Keep it for 20-30 minutes and wipe it off with a damp and clean cloth. Apply moisturizer. Repeat this DIY acne mask for 2-3 times a week. Don’t forget to massage the face for 2-3 minutes before removing the mask.
